Galena High School
has received notice from the Illinois State
Board of Education that we have earned an
Academic Improvement Award. The 2013 Academic
Improvement Award honors 125 schools across the
state that have posted substantial gains. These
schools demonstrate that exemplary progress is
possible at every level and can be sustained.
The staff is to be commended for all the hard
work required to help students demonstrate
academic improvement over the last three years.

offers a comprehensive secondary educational
program. Students have the opportunity to develop their
full educational potential. A diverse and strong academic
program offers courses from the basic to the advanced, including
honors classes in AP English, AP Calculus, AP History, and AP
Biology for the college bound. Galena High School students
continue to score above the national norm on the ACT. Many
of our graduates successfully continue their education at
universities and colleges throughout the nation. Whether
it is in the classroom or on the playing field, Galena High
